Robert Lane Turner (1941–2024)


Robert “Bob” Lane Turner, 82, of Staunton, VA, left this life to be reunited with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on January 28, 2024, at King’s Daughters in Staunton.


Bob met his wife Helen after she spotted some of Bob’s creative leather handiwork at a statefair. They began corresponding, eventually falling in love, and marrying in 1981.


Bob greatly enjoyed singing old-time Gospel songs and sharing his tremendous singing talents with his fellow church members at Community Fellowship Church in Staunton, VA.


Bob loved helping and serving others, and frequently volunteered for organizations such as The Salvation Army. He recently sponsored a Christmas event to support the residents of KingsDaughters.


Bob will always be remembered for his great affection for his family, his great singing voice, and his unique storytelling.


He was born in Staunton on January 30, 1941, to Jefferson and Eugenia Turner. Bob was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 42 years, Helen Turner, and daughter Rebecca Miller.

He is survived by Ruth Turner, Staunton, VA; Son-in-law Bobby Miller, Staunton, VA;
Granddaughters Katrina Conley (Charlie) and Sarah Cognetti (Tony); great grandchildren Faith Conley, Brianna Conley, Charles Conley III, Silas Cognetti, and Isabelle Cognetti; great-great grandson Rowan Wade Ingram. Surviving stepchildren Gail Graham (Rick), Dusty Donaldson, Ernie Gary (Mary), Cynthia Hughes, Tina Metz (Bill), and Chuck Gary (Tracy), as well as many step-grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He will also be deeply missed by dear friend Donna Davis who gave him much support of the past year, and by his beloved cat, Buddy.


Memorial Service will be held on Sunday, February 18, 2024, at 2:00 PM at the Community Fellowship Church, 19 S. Market St. Staunton, VA.


Bob and Helen greatly enjoyed attending Community Fellowship Church in Staunton and were greatly loved by many there. In lieu of flowers, donations to Community Fellowship would be greatly appreciated.
